Washingtonian Residential Design Awards

Congratulations to our clients, Robert M Gurney, FAIA and
Cunningham | Quill for winning 2010 Washingtonian Residential Design Awards!

Robert Gurney's Lujan Residence in Ocean View, DE provides a sense of living in a garden. Privacy was key to the design and the scheme is conceived to integrate living spaces with the outdoors thru clerestory windows and an abundance of light.

The goal for Cunningham | Quill's Davis Place was to bring progressive design into Arlington's traditional vernacular. The bright, open spaces break the traditional mold of affordable housing, while the design lends itself to creating a sense of community among residents.

2010 winners will be celebrated at the Embassy of Denmark, Danish Ambassador's Residence, on Friday, May 14th at the AIA Garden Party.

HDP Workshops & Seminars

What people are saying about our workshop:

"I found the workshop to be quite helpful. In the morning presentation, I liked it when you took the current terms back to their roots in film photography because I then had something tangible in my own mind to connect them with."

"I liked the shift between the digital darkroom presenters - it gave more interest to the whole day. It also helped showcase the depth you three have as a team."

"I have already been able to implement some of what you taught. I adjusted the color and perspective on a couple of images for a project in our portfolio. Now they are presentable and look like they belong in our marketing materials."

Anice, Judy and Allen presented a seminar last Friday to a capacity crowd at the DCAIA for the chapter's Lunch n Learn series. Designed for individuals who want to document their own projects or for firms who work with professional architectural photographers and want to better understand digital terms and techniques. Stayed tuned for more seminars and private workshops!

Hickok Cole's LAMB school project featured in Architectural Record

Check out Hickok Cole's Latin American Montessori Bilingual school featured in the January issue of Architectural Record. Anice Hoachlander photographed this new project just as kids came back to school last September. Hickok Cole Architects transformed an almost 100-year old school (building on left) in Northeast Washington and expanded the school to accommodate an ever-growing student population. Kids and teachers alike were thrilled to be in this new location. Congratulations to everyone who made this project possible. It was heartwarming to see all the happy faces during the photo shoot!

DESIGNArlington Awards

Congratulations to our clients Architecture Inc, Bonstra Haresign and Wiedemann Architects for their winning projects in the inaugural DESIGNArlington '09 Awards.

Last evening Judy Davis presented her current portfolio to a group of peers at the annual ASMP DC chapter program "8x10: Eight Members/Ten Minutes". After serving on the Chapter Board from 2000-2004, Judy was honored to return to friendly faces and colleagues where she revealed what she's been shooting since then. The images that garnered the best reaction were the before and after of Arlington's Davis Place exterior, highlighting extensive retouching requested by the clients, AHC Inc and Cunningham Quill Architects.
